POKOTABI / Criollo
クリオロ本店
At Criollo in Itabashi Ward's Mukaihara, precise textures and rich aromas define the pastry case, from the famed Phantom Cheesecake and award-winning Gaia and Nirvana to financiers baked fresh in the upstairs lab.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Looking across the meticulously arranged cakes in the display case, Criollo's quiet focus on pastry texture is immediately evident. The house signature, the "Phantom Cheesecake," gives in gently under a fork, remaining moist yet dissolving into a surprisingly airy lightness on the tongue. A rich cheese flavor blooms across the palate while finishing clean, making it easy to see why it remains a constant choice, whether ordered as an individual portion or taken home whole as a gift.
Criollo's world-competition-winning creations showcase equally intricate construction. Gaia layers a light, melt-in-the-mouth vanilla mousse and smooth caramel cream over a crisp nut base and a thick, moist almond sponge. The sweetness of the mousse, the toasted crunch of the nuts, and the deep caramel note align into a lingering, satisfying finish. Nirvana takes a different direction, pairing a smooth chocolate and blackberry tea mousse with vibrant fruit jelly, letting delicate berry tartness balance the cocoa notes. The Mont Blanc—featuring rum-scented cream and chestnut mousse atop a crisp, chocolate-coated meringue base—further illustrates this deliberate play of crisp and creamy textures.
Beyond the fresh entremets, the counter features freshly baked financiers prepared in the main shop's upstairs workshop. Baked until crisp along the edges and tender inside, they release a deep, warm fragrance of butter with every bite. The selection also includes savory sausage bread—a thick sausage wrapped in crusty baguette dough—as well as chocolates and boxed gift assortments. Operating primarily for takeout, it is a rewarding destination when assembling a treat for home or looking for a thoughtful gift.
